History

History

The history of DSI Underground dates back to 1865 - the foundation of the Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG based in Karlsruhe, Germany.
In the 1970s, the first DSI companies were founded to distribute the know-how of Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG internationally. In 2000, the DSI network consisted of more than 50 subsidiaries, licensees and agents.

DSI acquires ANI Strata Products and establishes a new business in the underground mining industry as well as in Australia

DSI acquires Underground companies in North America
DSI acquires the leading supplier of mining products Mexicana de Anclas Mineras in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico
DSI strengthens its tunneling division by acquiring ALWAG Tunnelausbau Ges.m.b.H. in Pasching, Austria
DSI expands its mining activities in South America by acquiring Soprofint SA, headquartered in Santiago, Chile
2008

DSI supplies special products for Australia's longest road tunnel in Brisbane, Australia. For the construction of the 5,000m long double tunnel, DSI supplies the AT-76 injection system used for the first time in Australia in addition to many other products and systems. The injection system protects the TBM in advance from water damage and ensuing failure

DSI acquires Fosminas Ancoragens Ltda., a leading producer of mining products in Brazil
DSI acquires business from AGRHIMERC S.A.C., Peru and establishes DSI Peru S.A.C.

February 2014

DSI acquires Schaum-Chemie Mikołów Sp. z o.o. The company acts as DSI Schaum Chemie on the market.

December 2014

PT DSI Underground Indonesia opens new Manufacturing Facility for Mining Products in Indonesia. The new, 3,000m2 manufacturing facility in Gresik, Surabaya, East Java primarily produces friction bolts for mining. 

August 2015
Acquisition of the Intellectual Property and manufacturing assets for the “OneStep“ mining bolt from Hilti AG. OneStep is a self-drilling mining bolt which combines the drill head, drill steel, bolt and adhesive resin in a single unit.
February 2016

Reorganization of the DSI Group. Effective March 2016, DSI Construction and DSI Underground operate as two separate divisions. DSI Construction continues to trade under “DSI” with the traditional company logo. DSI Underground adopts a new logo that goes into effect immediately.

July 2016
DSI Underground and Northern Mining Products (NMP) Sweden, sign an exclusive agreement to manufacture and sell the Dynamic OMEGA-BOLT®. The innovative rock bolt is based on the well-known expandable OMEGA-BOLT® friction bolt and is equipped with an internal additional steel element having a “C” profile that can absorb a significant amount of elastic energy.
Establishment of DSI Underground Nordic AB in Skellefteå, Sweden. The new logistics center can efficiently supply some of the largest underground metal mines in Europe with high quality ground support products on short notice.
March 2018
DSI Underground acquires Mining World S.A. in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The company operates as DSI Underground S.A., offering high quality and innovative solutions that make the underground industry safer and more efficient.
April 2018
DSI Underground Australia and Fero Group Pty Ltd sign an agreement under which DSI Underground Australia acquires 100 per cent of Fero. The acquisition completes DSI Underground’s product offer in galvanizing and mesh manufacturing. The completion of the acquisition is conditional on approval from the Australian anti-trust authority, the ACCC.
December 2018

DSI Underground opened the new Production Facility for Resin Capsules in Mikołów, Poland in order to be able to meet every demand, including urgent and highvolume orders.

April 2019

In April 2019 the production of galvanized mesh for the mining industry in Gresik Surabaya was successfully started. This is an important milestone in the expansion of local production in Indonesia.

May 2020

Sustainable expansion of the production capabilities in Stalowa Wola, Poland to ensure a reliable just-in-time delivery for customers in the EMEA region.

December 2020

Triton announces Sandvik Group, a Sweden-based public listed company, will be taking over DSI Underground. Sandvik is a high-tech and global engineering group with over 37,000 employees and is present in 160 countries. With this acquisition, Sandvik adds 20+ local production facilities and sales points globally and will be able to offer the industry’s widest range of mining products and solutions.

February 2021

DSI Underground completed the acquisition of the training and virtual reality specialist Edvirt, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. The new set-up offers an unmatched virtual training system, enhancing safety and productivity across the underground development cycle.

April 2021

Significant investments to upgrade the production of DSI Hollow Bar Systems in Austria. The investment in a new 1,600kW transformer, state-of-the-art automated bundling system and other products help contribute to reducing our environmental impact.

July 2021

Sandvik completes the acquisition of DSI Underground. DSI will be included in the Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions new Ground Support Division as DSI Underground – a Sandvik Company. Customers will continue to receive the high-quality products and services they came to know from DSI, with this combination strengthening the offerings for our clients.

June 2023

First production of MD / MDX Bolts in North America. With the installation of the first assembly line in Sturgeon Falls, ON, Canada, DSI is able to supply local customers with flexibility.

June 2023

Sandvik Group acquires Norgalv, a galvanizing plant in Canada (North Bay, Ontario), in June 2023. The company supplies customers in the mining, grating, and guide rail sectors. From today Norgalv becomes a part of the Ground Support Division.

September 2023

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions expands its ground support offering in Western Africa to include the full DSI portfolio, with stocks now available locally in major mining markets: Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Mali.
